Free Spring Fun for Portsmouth Children
Portsmouth’s Lib Dem-run City Council have announced the return of the successful HAF Fun Pompey scheme with ‘Spring Sessions’ available to all 11-16-year-olds from low-income families in this city.
The sessions are funded from the council’s Household Support Fund to create opportunities for secondary school students in Portsmouth who don’t qualify for free school meals or HAF but may still need support. A range of activities have been organised for local children, all of which include a free hot meal.
As a parent myself I know how important it is to keep children entertained over the holidays – and how difficult it can be. As a community-focused party, your Lib Dem councillors have all heard from residents how tough the school holidays can be financially, which is why I’m glad we’ve been able to unlock this money to invest in our children.
Cllr Kimberly Barrett, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Greening the City
Starting tomorrow and running until Saturday 19 April across the city, young people can take part in activities including trampolining, musical theatre, laser quest, skating and scooting, and finding calm through music and art.
I’m so pleased we’ve been able to use some of the funding from the Household Support Fund to offer these free sessions to kids in the city. It’s a great opportunity to get out, meet new people, and learn something new over the holidays.
Cllr Nicholas Dorrington, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education
