Lib Dems strongest in over a decade in Portsmouth
Portsmouth Liberal Democrats have been returned with 19 out of 42 councillors after the Local Elections.
With 14 seats up for election on 2 May, the Liberal Democrats secured 7 seats, including the last remaining Conservative seat in Portsmouth South.
This gives the Liberal Democrats their largest council group in over a decade since 2012.
At the same election, Labour failed to make any gains and the Conservatives were almost wiped out, holding just one seat in the north of the city and losing their last councillor in the south to the Liberal Democrats.
Portsmouth has given such a decisive vote of confidence in Liberal Democrat leadership. These elections just go to show how local people recognise how hard Liberal Democrat councillors work for them.

The Liberal Democrats are now preparing for the General Election which is expected later in 2024.
