Local Labour MPs betray Portsmouth pensioners

LEFT OUT IN THE COLD

Tens of thousands of pensioners in Portsmouth are bracing for a bitter winter after one of the first actions of the new Labour government was to cut winter fuel payments.

As energy bills rise, over 25,000 Portsmouth pensioners are set to lose up to £300. Even pensioners with incomes just over £12,000 will lose 100% of the payment.

Let down by Labour

Portsmouth South MP, Stephen Morgan, has come under fire for siding with the government on this deeply unpopular measure.

Meanwhile, Labour’s Portsmouth North MP, Amanda Martin, missed the crucial vote as she chose to go on a parliamentary trip to Gibraltar instead!

Portsmouth’s Council Leader Steve Pitt has pledged that the Lib Dem-led council will step-in to provide a package of support to protect pensioners who are on Housing Benefit but face Labour’s Winter Fuel Payments cuts, even if they don’t receive Pension Credit.

BACK THE ‘SAVE WINTER FUEL PAYMENTS’ CAMPAIGN TODAY

Lib Dem Charlie Murphy is leading a local campaign against Labour’s pensioners’ cuts. “We must keep pressure on the government and our Labour MPs to rethink and protect vulnerable pensioners. Please sign our petition against these cuts by scanning the code or going to the website address below.”
