Portsmouth's Lib Dem Council Launches Pension Credit Roadshow
Portsmouth's Lib Dem-led council is on a mission to reach some of the 2,500 local residents currently missing out on Pension Credit and losing out on £3,900 every year. The Council's Pension Credit roadshow will visit 10 locations throughout the city to support older residents to start the application process.
We believe up to 2,500 Portsmouth people are missing out on money by not claiming Pension Credit. That’s as much as £3,900 each that could really help someone to stay warm, pay their bills and do more of what they enjoy.
Cllr Steve Pitt, Leader of Portsmouth City Council
The Council's ‘Older Persons Energy Payment’ scheme, launched in response to Labour's cutting of essential Winter Fuel Allowance support, is also still available for older people in lower-income households. Portsmouth residents can get up to £300 from the Council.
Local residents who think they're eligible for the Portsmouth Older Persons Energy Payment can apply apply on the Portsmouth City Council website or by phoning the Council's Cost of Living helpline on 203 9284 1047.
From speaking to older people, it’s clear many don’t realise they qualify [for Pension Credit]. These events are part of the council’s wider campaign to reach people in their communities and help them to apply. If you know an older person on low income who might be eligible, please encourage them to attend, or call the council and we can support them.
