Stop Aquind demonstration

22 Apr 2023

Today, local residents, community groups and supporters of ALL local political parties protested against the Aquind interconnector project in Guildhall Square.

This dreadful project threatens to rip a giant trench from Eastney beach, through Milton and Baffins, all the way up the east of our city causing disruption and damage as it goes.

Aquind has been opposed from the beginning by Portsmouth’s Lib Dem- led Council who have funded the crucial legal action to fight the scheme in the courts – for the fight is now about the law now, not justice or what local people want.

So, it should also be noted that both the city’s MPs, Conservative Penny Mordaunt and Labour’s Stephen Morgan have also campaigned alongside the Lib Dem-led Council against the Aquind Project, and the campaign is led locally by community group Stop Aquind.

Such united opposition shows the strength of feeling in Portsmouth against the Aquind scheme and why we need to keep fighting it - together.
